Haiti Relief

At 4:53 PM, January 12, 2009,  a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Caribbean Island nation of Haiti, centered near the capitol of Port-au-Prince. The city and surrounding suburbs were decimated. Aid from the United States and around the world is being shipped to the citizens of Haiti but the death and destruction that were sustained are hindering the rescue efforts.

For over 25 years the Assemblies of Yahweh has maintained a presence on this impoverished Island. Over the last four years there has been a resurgence of interest and today there is a substantial congregation including an Assemblies of Yahweh meeting hall which is used everyday for daily devotions for the community and on the Sabbaths for worship.

After a few days of anxious anticipation the local leader was able to establish contact with Elder Jacob O. Meyer and reassured him the the entire congregation escaped serious injury! This is a miracle from Yahweh on High! Although this is good news, some of the brethren are now homeless. Elder Meyer has authorized the use and distribution of Assemblies of Yahweh assets already in Haiti but the continuing need is great. A Haiti-Relief department has been created to organize an effort that will benefit the needy brethren and citizens in Haiti. Elder Meyer is in contact with the local leader and will mobilize the relief effort as soon as it is safe to send people to the Island.
